Anthony Mackie reunites with Kathryn Bigelow for her Detroit riots drama

Just yesterday we learned that Will Poulter and Jack Reynor were among those joining John Boyega in the movie. With Mark Boal once again on writing duties, the film will unspool its story against the backdrop of destructive riots that spread across the city of Detroit in 1967, the result of pent-up rage at racism and police raids.

Unusually for announcements about the movie, we do know what Mackie will be doing in the film, as Deadline reports that he'll play a returning Vietnam veteran who features prominently in the story. Shooting will be happening soon and Bigelow is aiming to have it ready for a 2017 release around the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Once he's finished on the movie, Mackie will segue to the start of his duties as Sam Wilson, AKA Falcon in the next Avengers films. He's already worked on crime drama Wetlands and will also be seen as lawyer Johnnie Cochran in Signal Hill.
